This assignment is part of your Million Dollar Budget project. Today, you are going to learn about investment options. You will use the information from today’s activity to pick 1 type of investment that you must use as part of this project.
First, you will number off 1 - 5 to form groups just for this activity. This group for today has nothing to do with the partner you are working on your budget with!
CHOOSE ROLES:
Each group must assign its members one of the following jobs:
READ THE ARTICLE TOGETHER:
Within each group, you will number off again to form new groups. New groups should be made up of 1 person from each topic. You will have 2 minutes per investment type (Stocks, Bonds, Commodities, Mutual Funds, Banking) for each representative to explain it and argue why theirs is best.

- Summarizer - explains what it is and how it works
- Analyzer - advantages and disadvantages (break into 2 roles for groups of 6)
- Clarifier - defines at least 2 vocabulary terms
- Info Seeker - finds at least 2 additional interesting facts about it
- Questioner - comes up with at least 2 “quiz questions” (answered in the article) or “want to learn more” questions (not answered in the article).
READ THE ARTICLE TOGETHER:
- Group 1: Buying Stocks
- Group 2: Investing in Bonds
- Group 3: Buying Commodities
- Group 4: Investing in Mutual Funds
- Group 5: Putting Money in the Bank
- Create a Google Presentation (or other presentation, such as Prezi, etc.)
- Share to everyone in the group.
- Each person makes at least one slide per job (Summarizer - explains what it is and how it works, Analyzer - gives advantages and disadvantages, Clarifier - defines at least 2 vocabulary terms, Info Seeker - finds at least 2 additional interesting facts, Questioner - Comes up with at least 2 “quiz questions” or “want to learn more” questions).
- Go over the presentation together. Make sure everyone understands everything before you split up to share your topic with other groups.
